SherpaCTF 2024 Appreciation Post
SherpaCTF came to an end on 23-24 November 2024, and the crew finally got together for a well-deserved dinner to celebrate! A big thank you to everyone who participated, gave your all solving the challenges, and powered through the presentation section after hours of staring at the same screen or listening to the same song🔥 (Sorry for the in my head chal lol)
Overnight physical CTFs have been missing in Malaysia for years, so the SherpaSec team decided to bring them back with a fresh twist! We introduced a hackathon-style CTF, the first of its kind in Malaysia, and we definitely did not expect the overwhelming response. All 120+ slots were filled within just 24 hours, and we had to close registrations the very next morning. It still feels surreal, and we can’t thank you enough for the incredible support! Huge props to Yik Han Wong for coming up with this unique idea and rallying the team to make it a reality. We hope you all enjoyed trying out this new concept, and we’re excited to refine and improve it for future versions! 🫡
Of course, all of these will definitely not be possible without the SherpaSec crews! Big shoutout to Yik Han Wong, Lik Ken Chen, Swee Hao feng, Danisy Eisyraf, Lim Zhi Xuan, Teng Zheng Wang, Karen Ng Jia Hui, GOH KAH POOI, and our two photographers. The chaos we have to go through just to make this happen despite our work is just crazy, and I'm beyond grateful to have had such an incredible team by my side, sticking it out and seeing this project through to the very end 🙌
Next, a special thanks to the challenge creators for contributing their challenges to SherpaCTF 2024! Fun fact, apart from the sponsored challenges by N0H4TS and Dell Technologies, all challenges were created by ACSC and GCC alumni, myself included! Huge appreciation for Muhammad Firdaus Amran, Stephen, Fatah, Ali Radzali, and Roheender Singh, along with Dell and N0H4TS.
To our amazing judges, Tommy Wong, Jaan Yeh Leong, lijing khoo, Earl Marcus, Cong Xiang Ling, and Tho Kit Hoong, thank you so so much for dedicating your Sunday to sit through over 30 presentations! 🫡
And finally, to everyone who spent the weekend solving challenges and pushing through exhaustion in a cafeteria for around 24 hours straight, thank you for making this event so memorable. Until next time!
