What's always on my Q1 list for the year? That's right folks, it's Global Cybersecurity Camp (GCC)! 🥳

During February, I had the opportunity to attend GCC 2025 in Taiwan for a week as a crew member representing SherpaSec, the Malaysian member organization of GCC. Malaysia was proudly represented by 4 students this year (Noor Aliah Syafirah, Shunsuke Tan, Nelson Lee, Jeremy Phang Kah Chun) who were selected through SherpaCTF and interviews by the SherpaSec team.

Beyond the hands-on training led by international experts, the students collaborated in mixed teams to develop projects focused on quantum security, SSO, ICS security and more. Special shoutout to Nelson Lee’s team, who was one of the winners with their quantum security project 🥳

Usually, I don’t share my reflections after cybersec camps since I’m more focused on the crew aspect, but welp new year new ideas 👀 Attending GCC this year again was a nice refresher as it gave me the chance to meet my mentor Emil Tan, the very person who planted the seed for SherpaSec. Back then in GCC 2023, he encouraged me to start by simply hosting sharing sessions, connecting students and professionals so that more people could learn and grow. That small idea snowballed into a full-fledged cybersecurity community, and that was how SherpaSec came to be. I don't get to see someone as busy as him very often, so I’m just grateful he took some time to listen to my problems and share his advice, it was very much needed 😂
Its a picture of the crews! Emil is the one in red HAHA

Of course the crews had a nice lil reunion this year as well 🥳
Le next gen GCC crews, because the duty of hosting GCC will fall upon us soon 💀

Also, I finally met the GOAT Cherie-Anne Lee in person, and I'm absolutely inspired by her🫡 I MEAN LIKE BRO, SHE IS BOTH A CHEMIST AND A KERNEL PWN PLAYER AT THE SAME TIME 😭 AND SHE’S THE SAME AGE AS ME YALL ASDFKASDGH Her class definitely made me interested in pwn and I'll work hard to reach at least 5% of what she does😭💪🏻
She’s such an awesome person tho 🥹🫶🏻

Now what I've always liked about GCC isn’t just the technical knowledge, it’s also the exchange of cultures, skills, and ideas between countries. Every year, the committees hold roundtable discussions where we share how each country tackles common issues like cybersecurity education, talent shortages etc. Seeing how others operate made me realize just how much room we have for improvement in Malaysia, and I’m doing whatever I can to push those improvements forward 💪🏻 SherpaSec itself was kickstarted because of GCC, and seeing this year’s participants enjoy their experience gave me even more motivation to keep going!

Kudos to the Taiwanese team for being such a great host, and huge thanks to Cyberwise Inc. for sponsoring and making this opportunity possible!

Anyways I don't think I would be covering what goes through the classes since I spent most times in meetings HAHA, so I'll link to our students' blog posts instead wahoo:
